About the role

The primary role involves assisting in planning and carrying out multifaceted fish and wildlife studies, field investigations, and surveys. Responsibilities include monitoring, planning, and implementing activities related to conservation, management, and control of fish. Duties also involve capturing fish, applying various tags, gathering biological, physiological, and spatial data, and conducting outreach.

Responsibilities

• Contributes ideas and determines research methods for fish and wildlife studies.
• Monitors, plans, and implements activities related to fish conservation and management.
• Captures fish, applies various tags, and gathers biological, physiological, and spatial data.
• Develops and uses automated databases to enter, organize, and perform preliminary analysis of collected field data.
• Provides information on fish and wildlife resources to groups.
• Collects invasive fish through boat/backpack electrofishing and other fish collection techniques.

Requirements

To qualify for this position, you must meet the following minimum qualifications:

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
• Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
• Direct Deposit participation required.
• Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.

Qualifications

• Specialized experience: At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the Federal service, including experience in research activity or control program work, working on small boats, collecting, handling, and tagging various fish species, and collecting biological and water data from investigations and report findings.
• Education: Successful completion of at least one full year of graduate education in an accredited educational institution (18 semester hours) in coursework directly related to the work of this position, such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, natural resource management.
• Combination of education and experience as described above.
