About the role

Lead the development, optimization, and scale-up of experimental vaccines, including master seed/cell production, downstream processing, and technology transfer to Manufacturing. Provide technical support, develop early-stage assays, and prepare regulatory submissions. Manage project timelines, budgets, and strategic decision-making aligned with company goals. Oversee day-to-day lab activities, training, safety, and documentation while maintaining collaborative relationships with external clients.

Responsibilities

• Master seed/cell production and submission for testing
• Development and production of experimental vaccines
• Establishment of robust vaccine antigen and downstream processing methods
• Scale-up of vaccine production methods and successful transfer to Manufacturing
• Technical support to Manufacturing
• Early-stage assay development for new projects
• Preparation and support of submissions to regulatory agencies
• Establishment and maintenance of project and/or annual timelines and budgets
• Strategic decision-making based on company goals and objectives
• Maintenance of collaborative relationships with external clients
• Management of day-to-day activities of the group, including training and safety
• Maintenance of facilities, equipment, and documentation in R&D labs
• Generation of new SOPs as needed
• Writing and/or review of internal and external protocols and reports
• Monitoring and evaluation of task and project completion

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field with 10+ years of experience (including 5+ years as a supervisor/manager with at least 5 direct reports)
• Master’s degree in a scientific field with 6+ years of experience (including 3+ years as a supervisor/manager with at least 3 direct reports)
• PhD in a scientific field with 4+ years of experience (including 2+ years as a supervisor/manager with at least 2 direct reports)
• Demonstrated experience managing both projects and people within the biologics industry
• Experience with USDA CVB, bacterial fermentation, downstream concentration/recovery, and lyophilization process development, optimization, scale-up, and technology transfer
