Bioinformatics Research Associate II - WHIRC

About the Role

HJF is seeking a Bioinformatics Research Associate II to apply bioinformatics and data mining technologies to the study of endometrial, ovarian, and other human cancers, using genomic, proteomic, and clinicopathologic data acquired both internally and with our collaborators, as well as from the public domain. This position will be in support of Uniformed Services University - Gynecologic and Surgery - WHIRC department.

Responsibilities

  • Provides analysis and mining support to integrative biomedical research across the clinical, genomic, and proteomic platforms for WHIRC/GYNCOE projects.
  • Leads biomedical informatics research projects when appropriate.
  • Write reports, abstracts, manuscripts, and present research and development results in scientific and technological conferences.
  • Leads and supports scientific and technologic grant applications.
  • Performs analysis of gene expression, next-generation genomic and proteomic data acquired from clinical tissues, biofluids and experimental models.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Qualifications

Education and Experience
Master's Degree required, Doctoral Degree preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Capable of working both independently and as a team player.
  • Analytical capability of data from major proteogenomic experimental platforms including NextGen sequencing and mass-spectrometry proteomics, and array-based data.
  • Capable of using data analysis application software such as R and SAS. Familiar with a relational database such as Oracle or MySQL.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and capable of writing abstracts, manuscripts, and reports.
  • Understanding of clinico-pathologic data is a plus.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Physical Capabilities

  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment

This position will take place primarily in a clinic setting.

Compensation

The annual salary range for this position is $77,600 - $115,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
