Education/Experience
- Bachelor's degree in genetics or statistical genetics; pharmacology; biology (particularly molecular, evolutionary, or computational biology); biostatistics; bioinformatics; data mining; engineering with a healthcare focus, physics, or a comparable degree/training is required with four (4) years of experience.
- Master's degree in genetics or statistical genetics; pharmacology; biology (particularly molecular, evolutionary, or computational biology); biostatistics; bioinformatics; data mining; engineering with a healthcare focus, physics, or a comparable degree/training is required with two (2) years of experience.
Skills
- Experience working with statistical/bioinformatics software packages (e.g., R, Bioconductor, SAS)
- Scientific programming skills (e.g., Python, C, Java, shell scripting)
- Knowledge in working in a Linux and/or command line environment
- Cloud computing skills and experience preferred
Experience
- Deep knowledge in working with, collecting data, and cleaning data in the previously mentioned bioinformatics data domains may substitute for the previously mentioned experience
- Experience with data collection, data cleaning, database querying, and clinical data management
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
- Familiarity with healthcare data coding systems (e.g., ICD and CPT)
- Understanding of patient privacy, data governance, and regulatory requirements related to healthcare data (e.g., HIPAA)
Additional
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required to interact with research and clinical staff of various levels, as well as to assist in research grant applications, to present at scientific conferences, and to prepare and submit scientific manuscripts for publication
- Strong understanding of clinical data, including diagnoses, procedures, medications, laboratory results, and clinical workflows
- Understanding of patient privacy, data governance, and regulatory requirements related to healthcare data (e.g., HIPAA)
