About the RoleA crucial part of multi-omic data processing is quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC). Rigorous QA/QC is necessary to ensure our research, findings, and interpretation are not confounded by technical artifacts.A successful candidate should be able to say that a data point is not up to our QA/QC standards, as well as why. We're looking for a Bioinformatician with strong Python experience and molecular biology experience. While the role is fully computational, we're looking for candidates who understand the ins and outs of the omics assays we use (e.g., proteomics, immunomics, metabolomics). We expect you to be proactive in suggesting changes to our SOPs for improving data quality. What You'll DoMaintain QA/QC of omics assay data to ensure reproducibility and validity of results for members and internal R&D.Conduct R&D projects investigating failure modes on each assay, identify root causes, and produce interpretable prototypes of QC flags.Partner with the engineering team to implement and productionize prototype QC flags.Partner with the modeling/data science team to define QC requirements for reliable ML model development.Evaluate the impact of QC on downstream use cases, including ML model prediction outcomes.Assess within-platform and cross-platform reproducibility on replicate samples.Guide changes in sample and data handling SOPs to continually improve data quality and reduce QC failure rates in future datasets.Summarize and communicate new findings with audiences of different backgrounds.Educate colleagues and partners (scientific collaborators, omics assay vendors) on interpretation of QA/QC results. Who We're Looking ForA track record of writing clean code and executing successful research projects in computational science.Fluency in Python.Prior molecular biology experience is required — you should be able to reason about how a sample's handling history shows up in the data.Exceptional attention to detail.Experience collaborating in multidisciplinary teams.Clear verbal and written communication.Exceptional data visualization skills.Adaptability in the face of non-standard challenges and goals. Preferred QualificationsPhD in a quantitative field (our interview task is designed for an early-career PhD scientist).Experience analyzing multiple omics assay types, including incorporating multiple omics into one analysis.Hands-on molecular assay development experience.Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or similar).Experience with GitHub and version control.
