Job Summary

BioLegend is seeking a Biochemist to perform antibody–fluorophore conjugations from small-scale development batches to large-scale production lots. The role involves strong technical proficiency in conjugation chemistry, consistent execution, excellent documentation practices, and active participation in continuous improvement initiatives.

About the Role

This role requires a strong understanding of conjugation chemistry and purification techniques, experience with light-sensitive fluorophores, and familiarity with automation and digital tools. The Biochemist II is expected to be comfortable with semi-automated instrumentation and electronic batch records.

Responsibilities

  • Perform antibody–dye conjugations across scales
  • Protect light-sensitive fluorophores during reaction and purification
  • Purify conjugates via SEC, desalting, and/or affinity chromatography
  • Calculate concentrations, D/P ratios, yields, and other key quality metrics
  • Drive yield and passing rate improvements
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot lab equipment
  • Support semi-automated instrumentation and electronic batch records
  • Support adoption of automation and AI-enabled tools
  • Review, verify, and update SOPs, batch records, and compliance documentation
  • Participate in troubleshooting, root-cause investigations, and continuous improvement and lab safety initiatives
  • Provide training to team members
  • Contribute to other projects or responsibilities as needed

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biotechnology, or related scientific field with at least 2 years of experience in biotech manufacturing
  • Preferably a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline with up to 1 year of experience in biotech product development or manufacturing
  • Strong understanding of conjugation chemistry and purification techniques
  • Experience handling light-sensitive fluorophores during reaction and purification while maintaining product integrity
  • Experience with multiple conjugation chemistries
  • Exposure to automation, SEC, and electronic batch records
  • Experienced in manufacturing under ISO/GMP environment

Qualifications

  • Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer
  • Ability to work in a laboratory environment with occasional data entry on a computer
  • Occasional exposure to a warehouse environment

Skills
