About the Role

Your years of rigorous scientific training are more valuable than ever — and not just in the lab. We're looking for PhD-level Biochemists to help train and refine some of the world's most advanced AI models on cutting-edge scientific reasoning.

At Alignerr, we partner with leading AI research teams to build models that can think like experts. That means we need real experts — people who can spot when an AI gets enzyme kinetics wrong, misunderstands stereochemistry, or produces a flawed metabolic pathway. If that's you, this role was built for you.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role. No AI experience required — just deep biochemistry knowledge and sharp analytical thinking.

What You'll Do

  • Create challenging biochemistry problems spanning protein folding, nucleic acid chemistry, metabolic flux analysis, proteomics, and drug-target interactions to rigorously stress-test AI performance.
  • Write precise, step-by-step technical solutions that serve as the scientific benchmark for AI reasoning in life sciences.
  • Evaluate AI-generated biochemical pathways, molecular structures, and mathematical derivations for scientific accuracy, logical consistency, and safety.
  • Identify and document reasoning failures such as incorrect stoichiometry, stereochemical errors, or flawed enzyme mechanisms, and provide structured feedback that directly improves model quality.

Who You Are

  • Advanced Degree: PhD (completed or in progress) in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a closely related discipline.
  • Deep Domain Knowledge: Strong expertise in one or more of the following — structural biology, enzymology, cellular metabolism, molecular genetics, or bioinformatics.
  • Scientific Writer: Ability to communicate complex biological and chemical concepts clearly, precisely, and concisely in written form.
  • Meticulous Attention to Detail: High precision when reviewing chemical equations, molecular diagrams, reaction mechanisms, and experimental protocols.
  • No AI experience required — we'll guide you through everything you need to know.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with data annotation, quality evaluation, or scientific peer review
  • Familiarity with computational biochemistry tools such as PyMOL, AlphaFold, or BLAST
  • Background in bioinformatics or cheminformatics

Why Join Us

  • Work on what matters — contribute directly to AI systems being used by top research labs worldwide
  • Fully remote and flexible — work on your own schedule, from anywhere
  • Freelance autonomy — no rigid hours, no commute, no office politics
  • Meaningful impact — your scientific expertise shapes how AI understands and reasons about biochemistry
  • Potential for ongoing work — strong contributors are regularly extended on new projects
  • Global collaboration — work alongside scientists and researchers from around the world
