Responsibilities
- Conduct research within the facets of mass spectrometry - especially proteomics, metabolomics, and lipidomics.
- Work with a team of scientists, technicians, and students on multiple projects ranging from characterizing chemical exposure, understanding biological effects of chemical/non-chemical stressors, and developing biosample analysis including method development, data acquisition, and data processing.
- Contribute to different projects as needed.
- Communicate research results clearly and succinctly in both written and oral formats during weekly meetings.
- Participate in crafting peer-reviewed publications and grant proposals.
- Attend seminars and other LANL functions to expand knowledge and broaden interests.
- Engage in networking and social events.
Requirements
- A master's degree in biology, chemistry, analytical science, or related technical field obtained at the time of hire or within the past 2 years but have not yet been accepted and enrolled in further graduate programs.
- Demonstrated experience with analytical techniques, particularly mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography.
- Demonstrated experience with biological sample preparation leading to quantitative/qualitative results.
- Demonstrated competency with computers and software applications for word processing, data processing, and data visualization.
- Ability to maintain and record work performed, data obtained, as well as write and follow detailed protocols.
- Ability to understand and present research results clearly and succinctly in both written and oral formats.
- Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week on a consistent schedule.
- Ability to manage time and see tasks to completion.
Qualifications
- General background in biology, chemistry, or analytical sciences.
- Ability to comfortably work independently and as part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and effectively execute new laboratory skills.
- Demonstrated competency with computers and software applications for word processing, data processing, and data visualization.
- Ability to maintain and record work performed, data obtained, as well as write and follow detailed protocols.
- Ability to understand and present research results clearly and succinctly in both written and oral formats.
- Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week on a consistent schedule.
- Ability to manage time and see tasks to completion.
Skills
- Knowledge of any coding languages (e.g., R or Python).
- Other statistical data processing packages.
- Mass spectrometry data packages.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills through presentations at regional/national conferences and peer-reviewed publications.
- Desire to report work in peer-reviewed publications and assist in the grant proposal process.
