About the Role
The Bindery Operator is responsible for a combination of work performed in the Bindery Department, including operating the cutter, folder, stitcher, booklet maker, gathering line, and PUR binder. The role focuses on ensuring accurate job runs, high performance, safe work practices, minimal downtime, and efficient and professional communication.
Responsibilities
- Reports to the Production Manager any concerns to ensure technical and workflow issues are addressed and optimized.
- Troubleshoots and problem-solves on difficult projects.
- Ensures equipment is optimized and operates within required standards, including process controls, planned maintenance schedules, make-ready, and running standards.
- Reads and interprets information from bindery paperwork/job jackets.
- Communicates with the Production Manager on the validity of standards and expectations.
- Produces work following Quality Controls and Process Controls to deliver high-quality output within allotted time frames.
- Accurately records productivity and performance for evaluation against expectations.
- Coaches, trains, and directs General Workers, Apprentice Bindery employees, and temporary labor when assisting on equipment.
- Recommends equipment repairs, parts, and supplies as needed.
- Coordinates information handoffs between shifts to minimize downtime and increase productivity.
- Informs the Production Manager of any immediate concerns affecting departmental operations.
- Contributes to and attends production/project-specific meetings as required.
- Participates in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensures work areas and the bindery remain clean and tidy.
- Complies with all safety, health policies, procedures, and practices.
- Supports organizational goals and values.
- Performs other duties as required.
