About the role
Buffalo Hearing & Speech is seeking an experienced full-time Billing Assistant in their Finance department. This is a hybrid remote position with a work schedule of 8am - 4pm after initial training.
Responsibilities
- Reviews superbills for accuracy of CPT, diagnosis, charge amounts, etc., to ensure accuracy before sending to insurance payer.
- Sends reviewed superbills via electronic or paper within the current month to ensure timeliness and consistent revenue flow for the organization.
- Checks clearinghouse, Availity, for any claims in error, edits, corrects, and submits to payer timely.
- Follows up bi-monthly on assigned controls to include corrected claims, appeals, phone calls, or provider rep assistance to ensure any missing or incorrect information gets resolved timely.
- Keeps abreast of any updates from payers and shares them within the Billing Department, Front Support Staff, Clinical Director, Audiology Supervisor, and Speech Therapy Supervisor as appropriate.
- Posts and reconciles daily cash receipts for all locations.
- Answers daily incoming calls and resolves them immediately or within 48 hours.
- Works projects as assigned by the Accounts Receivable Manager.
- Participates in any audits as needed.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by the Accounts Receivable Manager.
Requirements
- Experience in Medicare and Medicaid HMO’s, Commercial payers such as ChampVA, Tricare, UHC, Aetna, Cigna, NYS Medicaid, and Workers Compensation.
- Prior Medical Billing with electronic and paper claim filing experience including maintenance of data tables.
- Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid billing guidelines.
- Proficiency in Outlook, MS Excel, and Word.
Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED, with a completed two-year degree in finance, billing, or a relevant field preferred.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in medical billing required. Two years of experience acceptable with a completed two-year degree in finance, billing, or relevant field.
Skills
- Prior Medical Billing with electronic and paper claim filing experience including maintenance of data tables.
- Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid billing guidelines.
- Proficiency in Outlook, MS Excel, and Word.
