The University of California, Irvine (UCI) seeks a Biller III to manage billing and collections for hospital charges from various payers. This role involves performing patient accounting tasks including payment posting and reconciliation.

About the role

  • Reviews all accounts within assigned inventory and ensures timely collection.
  • Maintains accounts using a computerized billing system.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies and contacts patients for unpaid balances.
  • Works with patients to resolve billing issues.
  • Processes payments and updates patient accounts accordingly.
  • Collaborates with insurance companies to ensure accurate billing and claims processing.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of revenue cycle processes and a variety of non-governmental and governmental payers.
  • Proficiency in CPT, HCPCS, and ICD billing codes, authorization requirements, and related documentation.
  • Good math skills for calculations related to patient accounting.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with payers, patients, and staff.
  • Familiarity with electronic payment posting and payer enrollment processes.
  • Experience creating and editing spreadsheets.
  • Effective data and numerical data entry skills.
  • Ability to resolve routine and non-routine errors independently.
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.

Qualifications

  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish and/or Vietnamese preferred.
  • Knowledge of revenue cycle processes from previous healthcare experience.
  • Good math skills for calculations related to patient accounting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Experience using computers and related programs and applications.
  • Ability to resolve routine and non-routine errors independently.
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
