Bilingual Teacher - ORR
About the role
The Bilingual Teacher provides educational instruction and support to unaccompanied children (UC) in an Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) program. This position delivers trauma-informed, culturally responsive educational services that support academic growth, social-emotional development, and the overall well-being of youth in care.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver daily lessons in core academic subjects, adapting instruction to meet the needs of youth with varying abilities and language backgrounds.
- Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment.
- Implement trauma-informed teaching strategies and positive behavior supports.
- Encourage student engagement, participation, and the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Work collaboratively with Lead Teacher, case managers, and clinical staff to support student learning and social-emotional growth.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues regarding student progress and educational needs.
- Support transition planning for youth, including reunification with family or movement to other programs.
- Monitor and assess student progress through formal and informal assessments.
- Prepare reports for program leadership and ORR as required.
- Participate in required ORR and agency trainings, including trauma-informed care and culturally responsive teaching practices.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance instructional effectiveness.
- Participate in and provide support groups and classes to the community and clients of the agency.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, or related field.
- Teaching certification from the relevant governing authority.
- TESOL/TEFL or equivalent certification and additional training to meet the educational needs of unaccompanied alien children (UAC).
- 1–2 years of teaching experience, preferably with children in residential or trauma-informed settings.
- Bilingual Spanish required.
- Understanding of child development, instructional strategies, and classroom management techniques.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with diverse populations and maintain professional boundaries.
- Be able to obtain Criminal and Child Abuse Clearance from the State of California/Department of Justice.
- Must be available full-time and able to adjust work day/work week to provide services when clients and families need them, which can routinely include evenings and occasionally weekends, in order to ensure coordination and continuity of services.
Qualifications
- Demonstrate the Understanding of the importance of compliance with HIPAA privacy practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, strong conflict resolution, communication and organizational skills; with great attention to detail.
- Ability to adhere to our attendance and punctuality policy.
- Must pass and remain current in CPR/First Aid.
- Must be able to effectively utilize computers and basic computer software.
- Must meet Licensing (or contract if not FFA position) and insurance requirements.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License and a good driving record.
- Must be at least 18 years old with at least 2 years of driving experience.
- A Greater Hope includes all employees in the DMV pull notification process, notifying AGH of infractions throughout the process.
- All Employees are required to report all arrests within 48 hours of arrest as per Licensing requirements.
- Must pass a drug screen, physical exam, and Tuberculosis skin test.
- A Greater Hope participates in E-Verify and will verify your Social Security Number.
- Foster Family Agency experience preferred.
Benefits
This position is funded through a federal cooperative agreement with the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). Continued employment is contingent upon continued grant funding, ORR approval (when applicable), and continued compliance with all ORR, licensing, and A Greater Hope personnel requirements.
Pay
$31.25 per hour
Schedule
Full-time, flexible schedule to accommodate client and family needs, including evenings and weekends.
