QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of basic office practices and procedures
  • Correct English and Spanish usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation
  • Telephone techniques and etiquette
  • Basic policies and procedures related to student registration, admissions, records maintenance, and word processing techniques
  • Effective communication orally and in written forms in both English and Spanish
  • Type accurately at a rate of 45 net wpm
  • Understand and carry out both oral and written instructions in an independent manner
  • Perform mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy
  • Compile and maintain accurate and complete records
  • Prepare related reports
  • Analyze situations and take appropriate action
  • Operate a variety of office equipment
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties
  • Two years of typing and general clerical experience, preferably with some involvement in the registration of students
  • A recent five-minute typing certificate must accompany application to be successful
  • Certificates must be less than two years old and cannot be completed through an online website
  • Kern High School District employees who currently work in a position requiring the same or higher minimum typing speed do not need to submit a typing certificate
  • MUST PASS THE DISTRICT'S BILINGUAL CERTIFICATION TEST IN ORAL, READING AND WRITING PROFICIENCY IN SPANISH
  • A criminal history check will be required of the successful candidate prior to employment

DUTIES OF POSITION:

  • To perform a variety of responsible clerical duties involved in student registration, admissions, and records maintenance, and other support services for school administrators as assigned
  • Receive general supervision from a school administrator within a framework of standard policies and procedures
  • May supervise student assistants
  • Maintain the accuracy, timeliness, and confidentiality of students' permanent record cards
  • Requires attention to detail, organizational skills, and the knowledge of specialized areas of school administration policies and procedures
  • Interprets orally and translates written material in Spanish as required

STARTING SALARY: $4,587.77 (monthly)

NUMBER OF MONTHS: 11 (to begin as soon as possible)

NUMBER OF HOURS: 8 (daily working hours 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
