About the role
Spectrum News is a network of over 30 hyper-local news and regional sports networks. Our mission is to produce original, unbiased, and high-quality content using innovative journalistic approaches and comprehensive research. We distribute news through TV, the Spectrum News app, and connected television, ensuring 24-hour news coverage.
Responsibilities
- Talk to members of your community to uncover perspectives that might otherwise go unreported
- Take ownership of the storytelling process from pitching to writing, shooting, interviewing, and editing
- Create compelling, timely, and accurate coverage for both traditional and digital platforms
- Connect with viewers across multiple platforms including TV, connected television, and digital
- Work under time pressure deadlines and be willing to work different shifts or longer shifts due to "breaking news" and severe weather emergencies
- Work weekends and holidays
Requirements
- Experience: 3+ years in television news reporting
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or related field; or comparable television work experience
- Technical Skills: Ability to shoot videos, understand video editing software, and utilize social media effectively
- Skills: Ability to communicate effectively on camera and through writing and verbal expression
- Language: Fluent in English and Spanish
- Abilities: Innate curiosity and a sense of urgency when creating compelling stories
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in a 24-hour news channel
Qualifications
- Valid driver's license for authorized driving in the state of residence
