About the role
This is a full-time (40 hours/week) Bilingual Health Care Assistant Float position serving our Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, and Waukesha Health Centers. As a valuable member of our team, you will assist patients seeking sexual and reproductive health care by interviewing, screening, educating, and preparing them for their appointments. The role involves both medical and administrative support to ensure efficient clinic operations, including front desk duties, facilitating clinic flow, performing laboratory and screening procedures, and participating in patient care plans.
Responsibilities
- Performs front office duties including greeting and registering patients, answering phones, making appointments, verifying third-party insurance, enrolling patients in payor sources, and collecting patient fees.
- Interviews, educates, and documents patient history in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) in compliance with agency policies and procedures.
- Obtains necessary signatures on consent forms.
- Assists clinical staff during exams and procedures, providing patient support.
- Prepares and cleans exam and procedure rooms as well as medical equipment consistent with agency standards.
- Maintains knowledge of equipment operations and assists with medical supply inventory.
- Performs and documents laboratory tests (e.g., urine pregnancy testing, hemoglobin, HIV testing, urinalysis, Rh testing) and alerts licensed staff to abnormal results.
- Prepares specimens for external laboratory analysis and maintains appropriate laboratory records.
- Performs vital signs, IM injections, phlebotomy, IV placement, and pelvic ultrasound under direct supervision of licensed staff.
- Stays current on sexual and reproductive health care, community resources, agency protocols, and Planned Parenthood services.
- Dispenses contraception and medication adhering to clinician’s orders and frequency tables.
- Administers ordered medications and vaccines.
- Performs quality assurance activities and complies with laboratory requirements as defined in PPFA and PPWI Medical Standards and Guidelines.
- Follows all safety and emergency policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills required for some positions.
- CPR certifiable.
Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Certification from an accredited medical assistant technical program is preferred.
- Experience in reproductive health, family planning, obstetrics, gynecology, or related medical/surgical experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to hear, talk, handle, and grasp.
- May require lifting up to 30 pounds.
- Requires close vision for reading and computer work.
- Ability to operate a computer, telephone, fax, copy machine, calculator, and medical equipment.
Working Conditions
- Generally performed in a medical office environment with frequent interruptions and moderate noise levels.
- Involves working with blood or blood-borne pathogens, requiring OSHA training, safety precautions, and protective equipment.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and/or weekends, and travel to other PPWI health centers as needed.
- May require occasional regional and/or statewide travel; a valid driver’s license and auto insurance may be required.
- Must have reliable transportation.
Pay
Starting pay begins at $20.15 per hour. Additional compensation includes:
- $1.50 per hour for bilingual (English/Spanish) skills.
- $3.00 per hour float incentive.
