Bilingual Fiber Splicing Foreman-English/Spanish

AIS Division 27 – Telecommunications is seeking an experienced Bilingual Fiber Splicing Foreman to lead fiber optic splicing crews on large-scale data center and telecommunications infrastructure projects across the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise fiber splicing crews on large-scale data center projects.
  • Perform and oversee fiber splicing and high-count fiber applications, ensuring proper preparation, organization, splicing, routing, and protection of fiber.
  • Perform fusion splicing and ensure splice quality meets project specifications.
  • Read and interpret fiber optic splice diagrams, schematics, and project documentation.
  • Identify and troubleshoot fiber, splice, and connectivity issues.
  • Ensure proper labeling, routing, slack management, and enclosure organization.
  • Conduct splice inspections and verify completed work before turnover.
  • Assist with OTDR testing, power meter testing, and fiber characterization as required.
  • Maintain accurate splice documentation and test results.
  • Demonstrate strong expertise with ribbon fiber systems, including:
    • High-count ribbon fiber
    • Mass fusion splicing
    • Ribbon splice trays
    • Fiber splice closures
    • Fiber distribution frames
    • Fiber panels and enclosures
    • High-density fiber environments
    • Fiber preparation and stripping
    • Splice organization and management
    • Fiber testing and troubleshooting (OTDR, optical loss testing)
  • Supervise fiber splicing technicians and supporting field personnel, assigning daily work and production targets.
  • Monitor crew productivity, workmanship, and provide training and mentorship on proper splicing procedures.
  • Verify technicians are properly equipped and prepared for daily work.
  • Monitor manpower requirements and communicate staffing needs to project leadership.
  • Address performance, production, and technical issues in the field.
  • Coordinate daily activities with the Project Manager, Superintendent, General Foreman, and customer representatives.
  • Review project schedules and ensure crew activities align with project milestones.
  • Communicate daily production and project status.
  • Identify material, equipment, or manpower issues before they impact the schedule.
  • Assist with planning upcoming splicing activities and coordinate work with other trades.
  • Support punch-list, testing, documentation, and project closeout activities.
  • Ensure all splicing work meets project specifications and industry standards.
  • Inspect completed splices and fiber enclosures, verifying splice loss and test results.
  • Ensure proper fiber routing and bend-radius requirements are maintained.
  • Identify and correct defective or non-compliant work.
  • Maintain accurate splice records and documentation.
  • Assist with customer inspections and quality audits.
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture within the fiber splicing crew.
  • Conduct or participate in daily safety meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Ensure technicians follow OSHA requirements and project-specific safety procedures.
  • Identify and correct unsafe working conditions.
  • Ensure proper PPE and jobsite practices are followed, maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • Communicate effectively in both English and Spanish, including:
    • Providing work instructions to Spanish-speaking technicians.
    • Translating technical and project requirements when necessary.
    • Communicating safety expectations clearly to the entire crew.
    • Facilitating communication between field personnel, project management, and customers.
    • Ensuring all employees understand production and quality expectations.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of fiber optic splicing experience.
  • Significant hands-on experience with ribbon fiber and mass fusion splicing.
  • Previous experience as a Fiber Splicing Foreman, Lead Splicer, Splicing Supervisor, or similar leadership role.
  • Experience supervising and directing fiber splicing crews.
  • Strong understanding of fiber optic construction and splicing practices.
  • Experience with OTDR and optical loss testing.
  • Ability to read splice diagrams, fiber schematics, and construction drawings.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Willingness to travel extensively throughout the United States.

Pay

Competitive hourly rate based on experience, with travel-related compensation and benefits. Compensation will be determined by ribbon splicing experience, leadership experience, data center experience, technical capabilities, and willingness to travel.

Schedule

  • Full-time position with extensive travel throughout the United States.
  • Willingness to work extended project assignments in different states and environments.
  • Available to work overtime and varying shifts as required by project schedules.
  • Able to travel with limited notice based on project requirements.
