About the role

The Early Head Start Home Visitor works one-on-one with low-income families from diverse ethnic backgrounds to provide in-home and some on-site educational services to support families with infants or toddlers, or pregnant women. Through weekly home visits and socialization groups (“baby and me” parent group), the Home Visitor partners with pregnant women and families with children birth to three years of age to enhance their healthy growth and development. We assist families in receiving comprehensive services in health, nutrition, early childhood and parenting education, social services, nutritional services, and problem-solving support so families can meet personal goals for them and their children.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of 12 families, prioritize, plan work activities, set goals and objectives, and use time effectively
  • Work with different computerized data systems to track all services to the families
  • Provide in-home and on-site educational services to support families with infants, toddlers, or pregnant women
  • Facilitate socialization groups (“baby and me” parent group)

Requirements

  • Valid Massachusetts driver’s license and regular access to a reliable vehicle
  • Basic computer fluency, including Microsoft Office and data-based systems
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities, use time efficiently, and set goals and objectives
  • Bilingual English/Portuguese required
  • Must receive background check clearance for Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI), Sex Offender Register Check (SORI), Finger Printing, and Department of Children and Families

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a home-based CDA credential or comparable credential, or equivalent coursework as part of an associate's or bachelor's degree; a CDA (Child Development Credential) in Home Visiting or Infants and Toddlers preferred
  • Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related Human Services field preferred
  • Candidates without the required credential but meeting experience and language preferences must enroll in the program-sponsored HVCDA and obtain the credential within 120 days of employment
  • Experience with low-income and diverse young children and their families preferred

Skills

  • Commitment to working with low-income and immigrant families and pregnant women
  • Knowledge of community resources or how to access community and social services
  • Ability to establish caring and supportive relationships with clients
  • Familiarity with child development and/or social services delivery systems

Schedule

Full-Time, Monday through Friday 9:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. with occasional evenings and weekends.

Pay

For candidates that meet the CDA (Child Development Credential) or equivalent coursework in Home Visiting or Infants and Toddlers requirement:

  • High School Diploma: $23.90/hour with bilingual language skills
  • Associate's Degree: $24.99/hour with bilingual language skills
  • Bachelor's Degree: $26.10/hour with bilingual language skills

For candidates without the required CDA or equivalent coursework (hired as a Program Support Specialist):

  • High School Diploma: $20.96/hour with bilingual language skills
  • Associate's Degree: $22.40/hour with bilingual language skills
  • Bachelor's Degree: $23.14/hour with bilingual language skills
