Bishop Gadsden, located on James Island, SC, is a not-for-profit, faith-based retirement community affiliated with the Episcopal Church. Known as the Southeast's leading life care retirement community, we are just 10 minutes from downtown Charleston. Our Bishop Gadsden at Home Department is seeking Companion team members to provide in-home support to clients, promoting independence and mobility with an emphasis on emotional, psychological, and social well-being.

About the role

Provide in-home support to elderly clients, focusing on personal care, nutritional needs, restorative care, and fostering independence while maintaining a respectful and courteous demeanor.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal care for clients, including bathing, showering, shampooing, oral hygiene, skin care, hair care, nail care, dressing, and shaving as needed.
• Assist clients with nutritional needs, including serving, feeding, and ensuring proper fluid requirements.
• Support proper restorative care, including range-of-motion exercises, proper positioning, and ambulation.
• Encourage client independence and optimal level of functioning.
• Exercise standard precautions of infection control in all client care.
• Exchange client information with supervisor via communications binder.
• Launder clients’ personal items as needed.
• Maintain a pleasant, respectful, and courteous demeanor.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
• At least 1 year of experience within long-term care for the elderly; home care experience is ideal.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Able to stand, stoop, bend, reach, squat, climb, reach above head, carry, and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Willingness to travel to clients throughout Charleston County.
• Reliable transportation to and from James Island.
