About the Role

The Town of Berlin has replaced its longtime economic development director, Christopher Edge, who resigned in late April. Edge spent over a decade leading Berlin’s economic development efforts, working with developers and local businesses while promoting the town.

Responsibilities

The new economic development director, Kevin Bielmeier, will be responsible for continuing the town's economic development efforts. Bielmeier plans to work closely with the Connecticut Main Street Center and the Connecticut Municipal Development Authority, and has begun discussions with the Connecticut Department of Transportation about future development opportunities around the Berlin train station.

Requirements

Bielmeier was one of four finalists interviewed for the position and received the unanimous endorsement of the search committee. He has a background in economic development, having spent six years as economic development director for the Town of Southbury and serving in part-time economic director roles in East Granby, Suffield, and Clinton.

Qualifications

Bielmeier has a diverse career spanning several decades and multiple industries, including cruise director, marketing, and nonprofit development. He is also the president of the Connecticut Economic Development Association.

Pay

Bielmeier began the job on July 6 with an annual salary of $112,323, matching Edge's pay.
