As a volunteer, you will also meet and work with other wonderful volunteers who share a similar interest in being involved in one of the leading cultural institutions in the Omaha community.

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Front Desk Admissions and Information Center Volunteers welcome visitors to the museum. Volunteers collect admission, explain museum layout, share the benefits of membership, and answer questions.
  • Gift Shop Assistants interact with the public as they browse through the beautiful merchandise at the museum Gift Shop. Volunteers provide customer service to visitors, handle purchase transactions, and assist the Gift Shop Manager.
  • Soda Fountain Jerks prepare and serve old-fashioned treats such as phosphates, floats, and ice cream sodas.
  • Train Car Hosts share stories about train travel from days gone by. Volunteers answer visitor questions about the museum's train cars.
  • Photo Archives Assistants assist with maintaining the museum's extensive photo collection. Volunteers help the public locate images from Omaha's past.
  • Docents lead groups of visitors on guided tours around the museum. Docents provide information and answer questions about museum exhibits and events.
  • Gallery Guides move through the exhibits and provide information about the exhibits to visitors.
  • Education Volunteers assist the Education Department in providing exciting learning experiences for children visitors. Volunteers help teach classes to various age groups and assist in Saturday workshops.
