About the role
MOSERS is seeking a detail-oriented benefit specialist to join the Benefits Administration team in Jefferson City, Missouri.
Responsibilities
- Answer questions from members and retirees via telephone and email regarding website assistance, completion of forms, years of service, retirement benefit amounts, COLAs, etc.
- Verify survivor eligibility, collect acceptable proof documents, process survivor applications, and prepare them for verification.
- Process refund applications for eligible members.
- Perform a high-volume of account updates and review retirement, direct deposit, tax withholding, and beneficiary forms.
- Request corrections for incomplete or inaccurate forms.
- Draft correspondence to members and beneficiaries specifically around survivor benefits.
- Serve as backup for front desk staff as needed.
- Perform other duties as needed or assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of technical-level experience, with strong communication skills.
- Excellent phone presence — comfortable spending most of the workday on calls, staying patient and clear across a high volume of member questions.
- Strong prioritization skills and ability to meet deadlines with a high degree of accuracy.
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to maintain confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism.
- Accurate, proficient typing skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Reliability with a team mentality.
- Able to maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Able to maintain confidentiality.
