Beltline Arboretum Trail Specialist

About the Role

The Beltline Trail Lead will perform all functions of the Gardener position and assume additional responsibilities to support the Atlanta Beltline Arboretum, a public garden focused on native plants, education, restoration, and scientific research. This role is managed by Trees Atlanta in partnership with Atlanta Beltline Inc., Atlanta Beltline Partnership, and the City of Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Beltline Arboretum Quadrant Supervisor in training gardeners in horticultural care and grounds maintenance, including vegetation management, mowing, mulching, planting, and watering.
• Uphold quality standards by providing feedback to gardeners and seasonal technicians.
• Provide input on priorities for punch lists during walkthroughs and in real time.
• Conduct occasional walkthroughs to maintain quality standards in assigned sections.
• Lead volunteer groups (no size limit) on maintenance projects.
• Perform occasional inspection reports on Beltline corridor sections and assets.
• Operate Trees Atlanta vehicles, including trucks, trailers, and gators, as well as hand and power tools such as pruning saws, shovels, leaf blowers, and string trimmers.

Requirements

• Interest and passion for trees, native plants, urban ecology, and/or horticulture.
• Minimum of one year of experience working in a public garden.
• Experience supervising volunteers, interns, or employees (desired).
• Strong work ethic, initiative, and confidence.
• Occasional flexibility to work evenings or weekends.
• Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively.

Physical Work Requirements

• Valid driver’s license with a minimum three-year history and a clean driving record.
• Ability to pass a DOT physical.
• Proficiency in driving pickup trucks and trailers (preferred).
• Comfortable working outside in all weather conditions.
• Updated tetanus shot.

Qualifications

• Pass a criminal background check and drug screening (Trees Atlanta participates in the Federal Drug Free Workplace Program).
• Pass a Motor Vehicle Report review for positions requiring driving company-owned vehicles.
• Verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States (E-Verify employer).

$20 an hour
