ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the head coach in carrying out their responsibilities.
  • Is accountable for and assists the head coach in the issuing, collection, and storage of all equipment.
  • Is responsible for knowing the existing state and league regulations and abiding by them at all times.
  • Aid the head coach and athletic coordinator in scheduling contests and practices.
  • Prepare for and adhere to scheduled sport events and practices, and follow scheduled facility times.
  • Make recommendations to the head coach for awards.
  • Recommend budgetary items for the next year in their area of the program.
  • Explain the team's training rules, CIAC eligibility rules, and procedures for participation in athletics to all members of the team.
  • Have thorough knowledge and implement the policies and procedures in the student-athlete handbook.
  • Secure and maintain cleanliness and monitor athletes in all athletic work areas.
  • Understand the proper administrative line of command, and refer all student and parent requests or grievances through proper channels.
  • Never criticize, admonish, or argue with the head coach or any staff member in the presence of players or parents.
  • Be responsible for the actions and conduct of the athletes whenever they are under their jurisdiction.
  • Be responsible for the general health and welfare of students in their sport, and give appropriate attention to athletes who are injured, ill, or otherwise incapacitated.
  • Attend all staff meetings and carry out scouting assignments as outlined by the head coach.
  • Instill in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care, and use.
  • Aid the head coach in maintaining necessary paperwork, including attendance records, inventory of uniforms and equipment, parent permission forms, etc.
  • Follow the department's set procedures for injured athletes.
  • Work within the basic framework and philosophy of the head coach of the sport.
  • Perform such other duties that are consistent with the nature of the position and that may be requested by the head coach or Director of Athletics.
  • Maintain current Connecticut coaching certification with the State of Connecticut Department of Education.

Qualification Requirements

  • Valid Connecticut coaching certification or temporary emergency coaching permit.
  • Updated CPR/First Aid training approved by Connecticut State Department of Education.
  • Knowledge and background in assigned sport.
