About the role

The Behavioral Program Specialist OPS serves as a key member of the Psychology unit within the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office at Northeast Florida State Hospital (NEFSH). This role involves assessing and implementing behavior modification interventions for individuals with significant behavioral issues, collaborating with medical professionals, and maintaining detailed documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with assessment and behavior modification interventions for individuals with significant behavioral issues.
  • Collaborates with attending physicians and treatment team to ensure continuity of services.
  • Conducts functional behavioral assessments and observes and records target behavior.
  • Develops and implements behavior modification strategies based on data.
  • Maintains an active presence on living areas and provides coaching and feedback to staff.
  • Develops and maintains an inventory of reinforcers and coping skills.
  • Develops and implements personal safety plans for individuals on the caseload.
  • Provides enrichment activities and group coverage as needed.
  • Attends recovery team meetings and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of an associate's degree in nursing, education, or a related field with a focus on behavior modification.
  • Two years of experience applying behavior modification principles.
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is preferred.
  • A valid Class E Florida Driver’s License.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of self-care program activities.
  • Ability to make behavioral assessments.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate activities.
  • Ability to develop and monitor self-care behavioral modification plans.
  • Ability to teach and apply behavior modification principles.
  • Ability to evaluate client services for compliance with program objectives.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
