Full-time position providing direct care and supportive services to patients in a behavioral health setting. The Behavioral Healthcare Technician (BHT) I ensures a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment while assisting with activities of daily living, monitoring patient well-being, and supporting treatment planning under clinical supervision.

Schedule

Various shifts available, including AM shift (6:00am - 2:30pm). Occasional travel during the workday and overnight stays may be required, with compensation for mileage, food, and lodging provided.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Care & Support
    • Assists patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) and provides personal care as needed.
    • Observes and influences patients’ behavior in a positive manner.
    • Supports the clinical team through crisis intervention, case management, and coordination of patient treatment plans.
    • Collaborates with doctors, psychologists, and rehabilitation therapists to treat, rehabilitate, and return patients to the community.
  • Medication Support & Health Monitoring
    • Administers medications and treatments following physician’s prescriptions.
    • Issues medications from the dispensary and maintains records in accordance with procedures.
    • Reports symptoms, reactions, and progress to the Nurse Practitioner and/or Facility Manager.
    • Takes and records measures of patients’ physical condition (e.g., temperature, blood pressure).
    • Monitors patients’ physical and emotional well-being and reports unusual behavior or ailments.
    • Documents nursing observations.
  • Nutrition & Meal Preparation
    • Inventories food, labels and dates opened items, organizes pantry and fridge, and prepares grocery orders.
    • Ensures patients receive appropriate nutrition, including shopping for groceries and preparing meals.
    • Takes water and fridge/freezer temperatures.
  • Documentation & Communication
    • Assists in maintaining patient records by reviewing case notes and documenting progress.
    • Communicates patient progress by participating in interdisciplinary meetings and daily briefings.
  • Professional Development & Improvement
    • Initiates changes to improve patient care and discusses them with doctors when appropriate.
    • Utilizes educational opportunities to maintain clinical expertise and promote personal growth.
  • Supervision
    • Assumes responsibility and accountability, including supervision of patients in the facility.
  • Environment & Safety
    • Ensures patient safety by completing safety checks.
    • Maintains a clean and sanitized environment, including cleaning spills, setting up equipment, and reducing infection risks.
  • Additional Functions
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Skills & Experience:
    • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Familiarity with equity and/or diversity initiatives.
    • Written and oral communication skills sufficient to perform essential functions.
    • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, supervisors, and healthcare professionals.
    • Ability to make decisions independently and use initiative for complex assignments.
    • Judgment and integrity in handling confidential information with tact and diplomacy.
    • Ability to organize time and resources to perform multiple tasks efficiently.
    • Proficiency in word processing, database, and/or spreadsheet applications.
    • Physical and mental attributes sufficient to perform essential functions.
    • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.

Qualifications

  • Medical Assisting certification or Certified Nursing Assistant certification (preferred).
  • Two (2) years of experience in Medical Detox, Pharmacy, SUD, Behavioral/Mental Health, EMT, or health services setting (preferred).
  • Proficiency in English and strong communication skills.

Pay

$20 per hour.

Working Conditions

  • Work settings vary, including offices, program sites, and stakeholder locations.
  • Travel may involve company or personal transportation.
