About the role

Responsibilities
- Adhere to professional standards and policies, and comply with regulatory requirements.
- Support the nursing staff in maintaining a therapeutic environment by applying supportive behavior and employing de-escalation and therapeutic interventions.
- Inventories patient belongings and secures contraband as needed, completing unit safety checks.
- Comply with standard/universal precautions and infection control policies, and attend required in-services.
- Perform vital signs, weights, ADLs, intake and output documentation, nutritional monitoring, and communicate findings to the nurse.
- Ensure patients receive appropriate diets by reviewing dietary restrictions, food allergies, and preferences.
- Assist patients with laundry, meals, bathroom functions, and maintaining belongings; assist with mobility needs as needed.
- Individualize patient care activities based on age, disability, and cultural sensitivity.
- Communicate and document patient observations, vital signs, nutrition intake, and findings accurately and within defined time lines.
- Communicate outcomes of assigned tasks to nursing staff, follow up on care responsibilities, and ensure continuity of care.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent with CNA certification or at least 6 months of prior bedside, direct patient care experience in a healthcare setting.
- Must be able to read, write, and follow verbal and written instruction.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well with diverse populations.
- Knowledge of age, disability, and cultural specific needs to communicate effectively with clients.
- Good physical and mental health, evidenced by a warm empathetic attitude, respect for dignity, worth, and potentiality of clients, and a high sense of personal integrity.
- Successfully complete CPR certification and an Oceans-approved behavioral de-escalation program.
