About the Role

Banner Behavioral Health Hospital in Scottsdale, AZ, is a voluntary facility for adults and adolescents, dedicated to providing safe, confidential, and compassionate treatment with customized plans to meet each patient's needs. This full-time day shift position focuses on safety checks, assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), milieu management, falls prevention, and one-on-one observations. The role is based in the Adult Unit with potential floating to Adolescents. Hours are 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM, including weekends and holidays on a rotating basis. Self-scheduling is available, along with an additional $1/hour weekend shift differential and an 18% night shift differential.

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic nursing care, including technical monitoring, taking vital signs, and physical care.
  • Orient patients to the treatment setting and assist with ADLs as needed.
  • Review and participate in implementing the patient treatment plan.
  • Conduct rounds, monitor patient activities, and report physical and mental status to nursing staff.
  • Check patient belongings for contraband and conduct safety monitoring activities (e.g., observational checks).
  • Document observations, interventions, and group activities in patient medical records while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and therapeutic environment, ensuring patient safety and rights.
  • Recognize and intervene in aggressive, crisis, or medical emergency situations, including restraint or seclusion if necessary.
  • Assess and interact therapeutically with patients and families, promoting dignity, independence, and respect for diversity.
  • Plan and facilitate social and didactic group activities; participate in rehabilitation and treatment programs.
  • Maintain knowledge of behavioral disorder symptoms, treatments, and commonly prescribed medications, including side effects.
  • Assist in patient admission, discharge, and transfer processes, completing required documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral health-related field OR high school diploma/equivalent with 1 year of direct patient care in an inpatient behavioral health setting (e.g., psychiatric facility, therapeutic group home, or residential program). Experience must include:
    • Assisting with personal grooming and ADLs.
    • Conducting educational, recreational, and skills groups.
    • Creating and maintaining a therapeutic milieu.
    • Applying non-violent de-escalation interventions in crises.
    • Recognizing symptoms of mental illness (e.g., depression, psychosis, substance abuse) and providing appropriate interventions.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • For roles serving children: Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card (or equivalent for BSS Behavioral Health roles in Arizona) required at hire and maintained throughout employment. An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.
  • Must meet age requirements as specified by state agency.
