Behavioral Health Psychiatrist-Corrections

We are recruiting for a mission-driven Behavioral Health Psychiatrist-Corrections to join our team at Denver Health.

About the role

The Behavioral Health Psychiatrist for Correctional Care diagnoses and treats adult patients with complex co-occurring medical, behavioral health, and substance misuse disorders, as well as homelessness, poverty, and treatment resistance. The Psychiatrist provides evidence-based, cost-effective clinical services including assessment, behavioral interventions, consultation, emergency medications, M-1 holds and other involuntary treatments such as seclusion/restraints, somatic treatments, triage, and other clinical services. The Psychiatrist directs care teams in identifying appropriate levels of care for complex patient presentations, collaborating with operational colleagues to maintain quality, safety, and financial viability. This role includes a faculty position at the University of Colorado.

Responsibilities

• Directs care teams in identifying appropriate levels of care for complex patient presentations.
• Obtains medical histories, makes diagnoses, implements and directs effective behavioral treatments during high-risk and/or life-threatening conditions, including pregnancy, malignant catatonia, neuroleptic malignant syndrome, and serotonin syndrome. (60%)
• Assesses and mitigates the risk of suicide or violence among at-risk patients due to psychiatric illness.
• Consults with non-psychiatric medical providers in the care of patients with psychiatric disorders.
• Interprets results of relevant laboratory and imaging studies and applies them to the diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric symptoms. (10%)
• Conducts competency evaluations, forensic evaluations, and evaluations for involuntary medications. (10%)
• Teaches and supervises trainees and advanced practice providers in clinical practices. (5%)
• Documents services in the health record. (5%)
• Writes professional reports. (5%)
• Participates in and/or supports academic research and professional writing; conducts scholarly work benefiting Denver Health patients and employees. (5%)

Requirements

• Doctorate Degree: Graduation from an accredited medical school and completion of accredited residency programs.
• 4-6 years of directly related and progressively responsible experience preferred.
• Active MD-Physician license from the State Medical Board.
• BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification from the American Heart Association.
• DEA Registration from the Drug Enforcement Agency.

Schedule

Regular (0.8 FTE), primarily day shifts.

Pay

$267,800.00 - $314,200.00 per year (Pay range listed is for 1.0 full-time equivalent).
