Behavioral Health Intern (Pre-license)

Provides direct behavioral health therapy services under the supervision of a licensed mental health professional. Interns must be enrolled in a master’s-level program in the mental health field. The internship follows the structure set forth by the academic program and agreed upon by the LifeCare Behavioral Health Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care to a wide range of ages through diagnostic intakes, individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, and CTSS Therapy in local schools.
  • Progress from observation of services to independent direct care in a graduated structure.
  • Maintain documentation in electronic health records, including intakes, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries, under supervision.
  • Attend bimonthly consultation groups and present cases formally to the Behavioral Health team.
  • Participate in community meetings for professional development.
  • Conduct comprehensive mental health diagnostic assessments upon referral.
  • Develop and review treatment plans with patients.
  • Facilitate implementation of treatment plans and adjust as needed.
  • Provide individual, couple, family, or group therapy using various therapeutic approaches.
  • Maintain communication with referral sources and other caregivers to coordinate patient care.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of psychiatric medications and recognize common reactions.
  • Identify significant changes or high-risk situations in a patient’s condition and take appropriate action.
  • Complete consults, assessments, progress notes, and billing procedures according to standard operating procedures.
  • Place follow-up calls to patients as necessary (e.g., for complaints or missed appointments).
  • Present cases for staff consultation and provide advocacy services to promote self-determination.
  • Monitor program effectiveness and participate in restructuring current and new programs.
  • Develop and present educational programs for professionals and staff upon request.
  • Maintain working knowledge of state laws related to child abuse/neglect, vulnerable adults, and the mentally ill.
  • Represent LifeCare Medical Center at Social Work/Behavioral Health meetings.
  • Engage in community involvement related to mental/behavioral health issues.
  • Maintain a file on community resources for referrals.
  • Collaborate with local county social service centers and law enforcement agencies.
  • Participate in professional meetings and conferences to stay informed of current practices.
  • Contribute to community education as requested by the Director.

Schedule

  • Part-time, 16 hours per week (0.2 FTE).
  • Day shift.
  • No weekends or holidays.

Pay

Starting pay range: $17.35 per hour. Compensation decisions depend on factors such as relevant work experience, education, certification, licensure, and internal equity.

Location: LifeCare Medical Center, Roseau office setting (with possible opportunities in hospital, care center, and school settings).
