PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The I/DD Coordinator of Behavioral Health will be pivotal in advancing our mission and ensuring the highest standards of care for individuals with developmental disabilities for the I/DD division. This position is crucial for driving strategic initiatives and achieving organizational goals.
Specific Responsibilities
- Implement and oversee behavior programming and training for all I/DD program services
- Provide direct supervision to Behavior Intervention Specialists
- Implement a higher level of support through coaching, training and evaluation for newer and/or struggling members of the Behavioral Health Services Dept.
- Direct support for programs in preparation for and during state audits
- Initiate creating and implementing forms and training material in accordance with behavioral support policies and procedures
- Coach in ABA methods appropriate for residential settings and positive behavior support for programs with higher levels of need
- Chair Critical Behavior Reviews for Long Island and the City bi-weekly
- Work to develop staff and leadership training for team cohesiveness across all I/DD programs
- Work hands on with programs on Active Treatment and Crisis Intervention
- Observe and report to I/DD leadership to enhance program evaluation with a concentration on programs in need of culture shift
- Regular review and auditing of residential program human rights books to ensure compliance in accordance with regulation
- Regular review of program’s behavioral data, behavior support programs and assessments to ensure compliance in accordance with regulation
- Take the lead on performance evaluation for newer Behavior Intervention Specialists
- Ensure that interventions are person-centered and tailored to diverse needs
- Ensure that behavior interventions comply with state regulations, as well as any relevant ethical guidelines
- Provide monthly in-person support to BHS staff by visiting all sites
- Attend IRC meetings and Support BISs with IRC recommendations in a timely manner
- Review of Mandatory Assessments such as Key assessments, Home Alone, Community and Travel, Sexual, Psychological and Psychosocial
- Coordinate coverage for BHS staff’s caseload during vacation, sick days and/or temporary leave
- Participate in Special IDT meetings alongside BHS staff when focusing on behavioral concerns
- Organize and facilitate individual and group supervision with the department monthly and/or as needed
- Direct report and communication with Assistant Director and Director of Behavioral Health
Qualifications
- Required Master’s degree in human services
- Strong management, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of OPWDD regulations
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in OPWDD-funded program with minimum of 3 years in residential services
- Computer-literate
Relationship with Others
- Interact with state and government umbrella agencies and other providers in a variety of forums

- Provide supervision and mentoring to those supervised in a positive and supportive manner

Working Conditions
- 35 hours/week, flexible schedule
- Must be available to respond to emergencies as they arise on an on-call basis
Scope of Responsibility
- Responsible for all Behavioral Health aspects of the I/DD residential, family care and day programs
