About the Role

Keystone Treatment Center is seeking a compassionate Behavioral Health Associate (BHA) to join our clinical team in Canton, SD. We are a 126-bed inpatient treatment center providing services to adults, located just southeast of Sioux Falls near the South Dakota/Iowa border. The BHA provides personal care services to patients under the direction of clinical or nursing leadership, demonstrating a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude at all times.

Our full continuum of recovery services includes Assessments, Medical Detoxification, Rehabilitation, and Continuing care, grounded in the 12 Steps of Recovery and evidence-based therapeutic interventions.

Shift Schedule

Week 1: Tuesday 8:00 PM–8:30 AM (12 hrs), Wednesday 7:00 AM–11:30 AM (4 hrs), Thursday 8:00 PM–8:30 AM (12 hrs), Saturday 7:00 AM–7:30 PM (12 hrs) — Total: 40 hours

Week 2: Monday 7:00 AM–7:30 PM (12 hrs), Tuesday 8:00 PM–8:30 AM (12 hrs), Thursday 8:00 PM–8:30 AM (12 hrs), Friday 2:30 PM–6:30 PM (4 hrs) — Total: 36 hours

Training and Orientation

All new hire counselors attend a 2-day facility orientation and patient treatment program overview, followed by 2 weeks of unit orientation with a preceptor. Shadow shifts are available for interested candidates.

Essential Functions

  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency related to the importance of patient safety and provide excellent customer services
  • Ensure the well-being of patients and provide a positive, supportive, and structured environment
  • Conduct safety checks and ensure supervision at 15-minute intervals as noted in special precautions or individualized supervision guidelines
  • Document timely, accurate, and appropriate clinical information in patient's medical record
  • Assist in providing a safe, secure, and comfortable environment for patients, significant others, and staff
  • Interact routinely with patients, observe behaviors, and communicate significant observations to nursing staff
  • Oversee or assist patients with activities of daily living including toileting, bathing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, meals, snacks, hydration, and changing bed linens
  • Obtain patient's vital signs, height, and weight as assigned and document in patient record
  • Facilitate patient educational-rehabilitative groups covering topics including social skills, coping skills, anger management, and independent living skills
  • Engage patients in activities and interactions designed to encourage achievement of treatment goals
  • Complete and maintain required documentation
  • Assist with follow-up and paperwork on incidents and events that may take place in the facility
  • Provide transportation for patients or coordinate transportation with appropriate staff member
  • Demonstrate a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude towards customers always
  • Acknowledge and work to resolve complaints when patient needs are not met
  • Recognize that patient safety is a top priority

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Six months or more experience working with the specific population of the facility preferred
  • CPR certification required (training available upon hire)
  • De-escalation and restraint certification required (training available upon hire)
  • First aid may be required based on state or facility requirements
