Primary Tasks & Major Activities
- Supports the instructional program by providing direct behavior management for students.
- Helps students achieve behavioral goals and social competencies to improve academic performance and classroom integration.
- Provides "reset" opportunities for students to facilitate emotional regulation outside the classroom.
- Aids in the development and implementation of behavior support plans with fidelity.
- Assists in immediate support during student escalations to help teachers maintain instructional focus.
- Facilitates In-School Suspension (ISS) as required.
- Works closely with staff and maintains open communication regarding student needs.
- Observes, records, and charts student behavior to assist in data-driven planning.
- Helps organize materials and documentation as directed by the assigned teacher.
- Provides direct academic and functional instruction to students under the guidance of the classroom teacher.
- Maintains strict confidentiality regarding all student and parent matters.
- Demonstrates respect for all stakeholders and engages in continuous professional growth and mandatory district training.
Education/Skills/Experience Required
- Meet one of the following criteria: 60+ college credit hours, a passing score on the ParaPro or Paraprofessional Assessment, or completion of the 20-hour Substitute Certificate Course.
- Hold and maintain a valid Substitute Certification and complete district-mandated training in specific seclusion and restraining techniques.
- Previous training or experience related to behavior management is highly beneficial.
- Possess excellent organizational, oral/written communication, and time-management skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks (bending, stooping, reaching, and manual student assistance).
- Reliable and able to maintain regular, consistent attendance.
- Willingness to understand and support the District's Comprehensive School Improvement Plan.
