About the Role

The Behavior Intervention Specialist (BIS) will implement prevention programs and coordinate internal and external resources at assigned schools. This role involves collaborating with school staff, parents, and community-based organizations to meet the needs of at-risk students and their families. The BIS will also promote intern participation in program growth and the development and delivery of prevention efforts.

Responsibilities

• Implement schoolwide programs that contribute to a positive school climate.
• Coordinate in-school and community resources to maximize the delivery of prevention, tiered intervention, and treatment programs for at-risk students and their families.
• Collaborate with administration, building personnel, and parents to streamline access to services and reduce duplication.
• Establish a network of community-based organizations to provide services through the school and as external resources.
• Serve as a Field Instructor for student interns.
• Collect, analyze, compile, and report data on student interventions, group offerings, attendance, and behavior.
• Develop a plan and timeline for the Social-Emotional Support Services (SSS) program and provide quarterly progress reports.
• Coordinate services through participation in school-based quarterly reports.
• Support Counseling and MSW interns from area colleges and universities in implementing the SSS program model and prevention/intervention programs.
• Implement programs addressing conflict resolution (e.g., Second Step curriculum), restorative practices, and check-in/check-out mentoring as directed.
• Develop and implement program goals and objectives.
• Create and deliver trainings as needed for school student support staff.
• Supervise MSW and BSW interns.
• Establish and meet timelines for program initiatives.
• Work with individuals, small groups, and teams to improve program outcomes.
• Communicate with school-based staff and community representatives regarding program initiatives.
• Handle stressful situations, changing priorities, and time constraints independently.
• Work efficiently and collaboratively with school administration, teachers, and community partners.

Qualifications

• A minimum of two (2) years' experience to supervise interns.
• Demonstrated strength in public speaking (desired).
• Demonstrated experience in prevention work.

Skills

• Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, memos, and correspondence. Ability to present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff, parents, and the public.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic arithmetic, calculate rates, ratios, percentages, and interpret graphs. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
• Computer Skills: Basic knowledge of standard hardware and software applications. Ability to use email, word processing, accounting, databases, and presentations.
• Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Other Skills: Ability to apply current research to instructional programs, plan and implement lessons, and establish effective relationships with students, peers, and parents. Strong oral and written communication skills. Awareness of district requirements, Board of Education policies, and professional responsibility codes for teachers.

Physical Demands

• Frequent standing, talking, hearing, walking, and sitting; occasional pushing or lifting up to 50 lbs (e.g., boxes, AV/VCR carts).
• Occasional need for sustained emergency physical behavior management (PMT).
• Direct responsibility for the safety and well-being of others.
• Specific vision abilities required: close vision for reading and adjusting focus.
• Ability to meet multiple demands and interact with the public and staff in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment

• Moderate to loud noise levels.
• Duties performed indoors and occasionally outdoors.
