About the role
Join a truly meaningful opportunity as a Registered Nurse in Sheridan Memorial Hospital’s new Behavioral Health Unit, opening in 2026. This state-of-the-art facility will include an outpatient clinic, crisis stabilization unit, and a six-bed inpatient psychiatric unit—expanding access to vital mental health services across Northcentral Wyoming.
Responsibilities
- Provides safe, effective, patient-centered care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation across inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Prioritizes care and responds appropriately to changes in patient condition.
- Administers treatments, medications, and interventions within scope of practice.
- Assists with procedures and performs clinical skills requiring technical competence.
- Carefully coordinates and delegates care activities as appropriate.
- Supports safety planning and recovery goals.
- Communicates clearly and effectively with providers, patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
- Collaborates with internal and external departments to support coordinated, team-based care.
- Serves as a liaison between patients, families, and the care team to support understanding and continuity of care.
- Affords patients and families respect, dignity, and compassion.
- Maintains effective working relationships within the department and across the organization.
- Treats patients and families with respect, dignity, and compassion.
- Manages competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements
- Current unrestricted Wyoming Registered Nurse license, required.
- A graduate of an accredited school of nursing, an associate’s degree in nursing is required.
- Minimum 2 years nursing experience, preferred.
- Minimum 1 year behavioral health experience, preferred.
- BLS, required.
- Central Registry, required.
- De-escalation training required.
- ACLS, required within a year of the start date.
Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, associate’s degree in nursing preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years nursing experience, minimum 1 year behavioral health experience preferred.
- Licenses: Current unrestricted Wyoming Registered Nurse license required.
- Skills: BLS, Central Registry, De-escalation training, ACLS required.
- Additional Skills: Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills, ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple patient care activities, effective verbal and written communication skills, ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency or high-stress situations, knowledge of patient safety principles and infection prevention practices, basic computer skills and ability to use electronic health records (EHR), demonstrates professionalism, accountability, and a commitment to patient-centered care.
