Behavior & Academic Specialist
About the role
The Behavior Specialist oversees student behavior progress, provides individual and group support, and supports families.
Responsibilities
- Design, plan, and implement behavior support plans in/outside the classroom in collaboration with classroom staff
- Using IEP and school reports, measure goals and behavior support plans, analyze interventions, and determine their success
- Provide in-classroom support as needed to support and encourage students
- Maintain records of student’s special education reports, services provided, and behavioral data
- Aid caregivers in facilitating healthy routines and behavior interventions
- Participate in and assist with After School Program & Summer Day Camp programs, including enrichments, lessons, Troops, yoga, dance, and sports programs
- Actively seek professional development and resources to support youth and families
- Report possible cases of child abuse, neglect, or endangerment to the proper authorities
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Bachelor’s degree in human services, education, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- Experience working with diverse backgrounds and ages (TK – 12th preferred)
- Experience handling emotionally charged situations
- Experience in training others to apply behavior management techniques effectively
- Experience in behavior analysis and understanding behavioral characteristics associated with specific needs
- Knowledge of instructional methods and education curriculums
- Knowledge of trauma on students and how to lead in a trauma-informed manner
Skills
- Able to effectively respond and redirect children in a positive manner
- Able to effectively communicate with parents/families
- Comfortable with enforcing program rules and policies
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (usually file boxes)
