Behav Health Therapist

About the role

Provides psychotherapeutic treatment, supportive counseling, linkage, referral, and advocacy to patients and families as assigned. Serves as a member of the treatment team, delivering a broad range of treatment and rehabilitation activities for the assigned population.

Responsibilities

• Participates as an integral professional member of an interdisciplinary treatment team led by a physician.
• Facilitates therapeutic milieu on the treatment unit when applicable.
• Provides direct one-on-one age-specific psychotherapy services under supervision.
• Determines developmental age and assists the treatment team in developing and implementing a treatment plan aligned with developmental needs and required interventions.
• Assesses psychosocial needs, including high-risk indicators, and documents psychosocial history/assessment.
• Correlates assembled psychosocial data into clinically pertinent information for the individual patient.
• Performs continued-care planning from the first day of services.
• Provides group therapy under supervision as deemed appropriate.
• Acts as a liaison for patients and families to community agencies, consultants, and services.
• Records and charts all patient contacts as required.
• Provides direct family therapy under supervision as directed by treatment planning and program requirements.
• Maintains appropriate certification and competency through supervision, training, and annual performance evaluations.
• Attends continuing education seminars and in-services to maintain licensure, competency, and meet hospital educational standards.
• Adheres to performance expectations of WVU Medicine employees.
• Performs other duties/projects as requested.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in a related field.
• State criminal background check and Federal background check (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.

Preferred Qualifications

• Temporary Social Work permit OR passage of the National Board of Certified Counselors examination for licensure and certification.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping throughout the work shift.
• When working on inpatient units, must be able and willing to participate in physical restraint of patients if needed.

Working Environment

• Interacts and works with trainees of multiple disciplines.
• Time spent in the office and walking around interacting with patients and staff.
