About the role
Our IVN chapter has three youth groups for children aged 7 to 18. They meet on Wednesday afternoons (ages up to 12) or Saturdays (ages 12 and older), usually once a month. Activities are typically held in nature, such as bird watching, searching for small animals, playing forest games, conducting research, or doing maintenance work in the woods. In case of bad weather, activities take place indoors at the clubhouse, like decorating pumpkins, making suet balls, or building birdhouses.
You will help guide the group together with experienced youth leaders. You enjoy working with young people and have an affinity for nature. Specific or detailed knowledge of nature is not required. You will gain a great deal of satisfaction from seeing how much the youth enjoy and actively engage with nature, and you will work with a wonderful team. This role takes place on either Wednesday afternoons or Saturday mornings, by mutual agreement.
What we expect
- Good rapport with children (ages 8–15)
- Passion for nature; specific knowledge is not strictly required
- Availability one Wednesday afternoon or Saturday morning per month to guide the group, plus preparation beforehand depending on the theme
- Attendance at a meeting with all leaders every three months
