Become a Volunteer Teacher with the Red Cross! (Maine)

Description

Perhaps the best protection against emergencies is education. The American Red Cross would much rather meet members of the community before a disaster than after. This is why we offer free programs for different ages and organizations led by Volunteer Instructors, Presenters, and Assistants. This is your opportunity to share your knowledge, to flex your teaching abilities, and to use your communications skills, all while doing your part to save lives and property. All training provided; only sign up for shifts and sessions that fit your schedule!

DISASTER AND EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS FOR YOUTH

• The Pillowcase Project: A national youth preparedness program offered by Red Cross regions across the country.
• 40- or 60-minute presentation providing emergency preparedness education to youth in grades 3-5 (ages 8-11) in school classrooms and other settings.
• Numerous tools developed for this program including a standardized curriculum, workbook, quizzes and activities.
• Tools for presenters to foster consistency and fidelity to the program goals and objectives.
• Highly interactive presentation addressing home fire safety, a local natural hazard, psycho-social coping skills, and household preparedness steps like making a plan and a kit.
• Team Member roles include being a presenter, presentation assistant, administrative support, or presenter trainer!

• Hands Only CPR: Learn how to check for consciousness, call 911 (or the local emergency number) and give continuous chest compressions.
• Ready Rating: Helps businesses, schools, and organizations become better prepared for disasters and other emergencies.
