About the role

This position involves the cultivation, selection, and management of a diverse carnation crop with a wide variety of cultivars.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the growth and care of carnation varieties including Beams, Cherry, Miniature, Standard, and Bicolour types.
  • Manage production for multiple cultivar lines such as Moon Series, Lege Series, Nobbio Series, Golem Series, and Novelty selections.
  • Coordinate sorting and selection processes for carnation varieties by colour, size, and type.
  • Implement growing protocols for different carnation groups including Spray, Standard, and Miniature carnations.
  • Monitor crop health and quality across a diverse assortment of over 500 named carnation varieties.
  • Maintain cultivation records for specific varieties including Tempest, Hermes, Dakar, and Montezuma.
  • Execute production planning for seasonal carnation lines including Mother's Day, Valentine's Day, and Christmas packs.

Requirements

  • Experience in floriculture or cut flower production, specifically with carnations (Dianthus caryophyllus).
  • Knowledge of carnation variety identification and classification.
  • Ability to manage a diverse genetic portfolio of carnation cultivars.
  • Understanding of colour sorting and quality grading standards for carnations.
  • Familiarity with carnation disease management and crop protection practices.

Qualifications

  • Agricultural or horticultural education or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven track record in managing multiple carnation varieties simultaneously.
  • Experience with the following carnation series: Mini, Standard, Spray, Novelty, and Bicolour.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain genetic purity and crop consistency.
  • Knowledge of carnation market preferences and variety trends.

Skills

  • Strong attention to detail for variety identification and selection.
  • Ability to work with an extensive carnation assortment exceeding 500 cultivars.
  • Understanding of colour theory and carnation colour classification.
  • Crop scheduling and production planning abilities.
  • Record keeping and data management skills for variety tracking.
  • Problem-solving skills for addressing crop issues across multiple varieties.
