Beacon Outreach Coordinator (South Shore YMCA)

About the role

The South Shore YMCA is seeking a Beacon Outreach Coordinator to lead outreach and community inclusion efforts for the Beacon Program. The coordinator will forge relationships with youth who are chronically absent or have dropped out of school, persuading them to engage in Beacon programming and school.

Responsibilities

• Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces diversity.
• Facilitate outreach to hard-to-reach youth and young adults not participating in afterschool or community center programs.
• Build relationships with chronically absent or out-of-school youth to encourage engagement in Beacon programming and school.
• Act as a “credible messenger,” maintain strong community connections, and address conflicts that may undermine cohesion or trigger violence.
• Assist in marketing and distributing program information to communities that may otherwise attend Beacon programming.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with community stakeholders and parents/guardians through regular communication.
• Ensure participants' health, safety, and well-being by following Risk Management and safety procedures; report all incidents per Y policies.
• Collaborate with Counselors and the Beacon Director to plan and implement meaningful programming and special events.
• Support development and facilitation of required pre-program training.
• Participate in training sessions, designated meetings, and special events.
• Adhere to Department of Health, Department of Education, DYCD, YMCA of Greater New York, and funder standards and regulations.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two (2) years of education in a program area related to working with youth and/or communities.
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with youth, families, and community development, including:
  • Social and emotional learning
  • Skill-building and youth leadership
  • Neighborhood priorities and trauma-informed approaches
  • Provision of services for individuals with disabilities
  • Cultural competence, including sensitivity to LGBTQ issues
• General knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Strong interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, and comfort working with diverse youth and adults.
