Battery Storage Technician II, Century Oak
ENGIE North America is hiring for our Century Oak site in Cisco, TX.
About the role
Your daily responsibilities include installing, maintaining, testing, adjusting, troubleshooting, and repairing relay and control equipment in the electrical substation. This may involve electromechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor protective relays, instrument transformers, indication and KWH/KW meters, controls for substation equipment (breakers, transformers, regulators, capacitors, reactors), and remote control equipment including various forms of SCADA.
You will fill out permits to work, job safety plans (JSPs), lock-out tag-out (LOTO) procedures, and perform last-minute risk assessments. Preventative maintenance tasks on site-specific equipment are executed during monthly, semi-annual, and annual maintenance cycles. You will demonstrate reactive maintenance skills, such as intermediate troubleshooting and root-cause analysis, to restore faulted units.
Responsibilities
- Interpret ENGIE’s official documentation, such as LOTO procedures, work instructions, routine maintenance checklists, and create and follow up on work orders and observations in Maximo.
- Read, understand, and execute switching procedures for substation outages.
- Conduct site orientations for OEM representatives, independent service providers (ISPs), vendors, and site visitors, and accompany them to perform LOTO and general supervision to ensure adherence to ENGIE’s quality and safety standards.
- Participate in a Qualified Electrical Worker Competency Skills test, demonstrating knowledge of AC/DC voltage readings, hot-cold-hot tests, use of CAT IV PPE, shotgun stick for cluster grounds, and verifying absence of voltage using a non-contact voltage detector.
Requirements
- Minimum High School Diploma/GED or a diploma in an electrical program covering AC/DC voltage, general electrical theory, basic understanding of one-line and three-line schematics, and operation & maintenance of electrical equipment (AC/DC breakers, disconnects, MV transformers, NO/NC contactors, and relays).
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in BESS sites, solar generation sites, wind generation sites, thermal power plants, manufacturing, mining operations, or controls & instrumentation maintenance.
- Intermediate knowledge of inverter original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
- Knowledge of OEM control & supervisory programs (e.g., Power Supervisor, Monitor Fusion, LC/BSC/PCS/CMU Interface) and ENGIE’s Broadview supervisory & control program.
- Intermediate knowledge of SCADA monitoring and willingness to mentor junior technicians.
- Proficiency with basic hand and power tools (screwdrivers, crescent wrenches, pliers, ratchet wrenches, torque wrenches, sockets, drills, impacts).
- Capacity to be on call as deemed necessary by supervisor.
Additional Details
- This is a field position requiring daily travel to ENGIE sites.
- Must be available for domestic travel to support operations at other ENGIE Renewable Generation sites (Solar, Wind, and BESS).
- Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license and a clean driving record to drive company vehicles.
- Must comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies.
- The position consists of 30% indoor work and 70% outdoor work; outdoor work may expose the employee to weather conditions.
Pay
Hourly Range: $32.00 - $38.00 USD. This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate. Actual salary may vary depending on geography, experience, education, and internal pay alignment. The position is also eligible for a competitive bonus/incentive plan and emergency or on-call pay.
