Our Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Battery Engineer/Scientist for our Materials Science and Electrochemistry practice in Menlo Park, California. In this role, you will work as part of a team to contribute to our battery and materials science-related consulting services at Exponent. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with battery-related research and possess a well-developed understanding of secondary and/or primary battery chemistries and material and battery characterization techniques. Knowledge/experience with cell design, cell assembly, and failure analysis is a plus.

  • Apply your experience with battery research and development to solve challenging, real-world battery electrochemistry and materials problems for our clients.
  • Design and run experiments.
  • Interpret and present data.
  • Prepare written reports.
  • Present results to clients.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Specialized knowledge of electrochemistry, lithium-ion batteries, and/or other battery technologies.
  • A well-developed understanding of cell design, cell assembly, and failure analysis are desirable.
  • Hands-on material and battery characterization experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work within project teams with a strong desire to contribute, have potential for technical and project managerial leadership.
  • Must be able to convey complex technical information to individuals in engineering, business, legal, and related fields.
