About the role
Bartenders work directly with customers by mixing and serving drink orders. Responsibilities include verifying age requirements, knowing alcohol pairings and tastes, preparing traditional and classy drinks, processing payments, managing inventory, and cleaning bar supplies.
Responsibilities
- Sets up the bar with supplies (fruit, garnishes, cocktail napkins, glassware, etc.) and product prior to opening to ensure smooth service.
- Ensures correct display of products to enhance sales and showcase selection.
- Receives and prepares drink orders from guests and servers using standard pours and recipes; ensures accuracy.
- Rings drink orders into the register, collects money, and makes correct change.
- Provides immediate attention to all guests, listens actively, and enhances guest relations.
- Closes down the bar, securing inventory, cleaning and sanitizing the bar, and putting away supplies.
- Assists servers with serving food and beverages when necessary.
- Informs guests of daily specials and chef’s specialties.
- Takes guest orders accurately and timely, places orders with the kitchen, and communicates special cooking instructions.
- Serves beverages and meals according to standard operating procedures.
- Performs quality checks to ensure guest satisfaction.
- Removes soiled plates and glassware according to standard operating procedures.
- Suggests and serves dessert, coffee, and after-dinner drinks.
- Verifies accuracy of prices, tips, and other charges on all checks.
- Handles cash and credit card charges according to standard operating procedures.
- Clears and resets tables after guests leave the restaurant.
- Keeps table, dining room, and bus station areas clean at all times.
- Advises supervisor of any guest complaints immediately.
- Performs clean-up and closing duties as assigned by the manager.
- Attends pre-shift line-ups as requested by the Supervisor or Service Director.
- Reviews and turns in Z report with correct cash drop and credit card slips.
- Performs any task asked by a supervisor that is job or guest-related.
- Reports to work in a neat, clean uniform with well-groomed hair and personal hygiene.
- Treats all guests in a manner to ensure their complete satisfaction, always striving to exceed expectations.
- Gains TIP certification within 3 months of acquiring the job.
- Checks identification of guests to ensure they are of legal age to consume alcoholic beverages.
- Politely refuses to serve beverages to guests who are not of legal age.
- Uses judgment and reasoning to handle difficult situations, such as preventing intoxication or dealing with underage guests (e.g., carding a minor and offering water instead of confrontation).
- Observes guest behavior, counts drinks served, and offers a taxi if a guest should not drive.
- Does not hesitate to ask a manager to intervene when necessary.
- Understands and actively supports all company policies relevant to the role.
