About the role
The bartender offers prompt and courteous service so guests have an enjoyable experience. Serves high-quality beverages while maintaining the cleanliness and guest-ready appearance of the outlet.
Character traits of honesty and trustworthiness are essential to this position and must be displayed at all times. Potential associates must pass appropriate security clearances.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and consistently maintain working area and supplies in a guest-ready atmosphere.
- Prepare and serve drinks as requested by guests.
- Process guest charges and gratuities in accordance with standards, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain safety and security practices; have thorough knowledge of emergency procedures.
- Ensure guests are provided with the highest quality product and service.
- Maintain certification from a brand-approved responsible vendor training program.
- Maintain liquor inventory regularly.
- Perform other duties as assigned that the associate is capable of performing.
Requirements
- One year of experience in a food and beverage position; experience with chain food and retail outlets preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s Degree preferred.
- Food Handling and Alcohol Safety certifications preferred.
- Must be able to perform major life activities: standing, lifting, bending, learning, reading, concentrating, thinking, and communicating.
- Must be able to push or pull 60 pounds unassisted and lift and/or carry 30 pounds unassisted.
- Must be able to stand for eight hours, bend, stretch, and reach.
- Must be able to see and hear, and communicate with other associates and/or guests.
Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of age requirements and verification for those who order alcoholic beverages.
- Familiarity with menu items, preparation methods, and beverage choices.
- Understanding of various types of alcoholic beverages, trends, and cocktail preparation.
- Awareness of standards of operation as required by the brand.
- Knowledge of area shopping, dining, entertainment, and travel directions to assist guest inquiries.
- Stay updated on daily hotel operations, events, bulletin boards, and changes in procedures.
- Friendly, professional attitude expected daily.
- Computer literate to operate property management system: post charges, compute bills, collect payment, and make change.
- Ability to sell, suggest, and serve quality food and beverage items as per standards.
- Multitask while remaining associate- and guest-service centric.
- Effectively communicate with guests and associates; solve guest issues professionally while maintaining a hospitable attitude.
- Market and promote to increase exposure and sales.
- Work as a team member in aspects such as cleaning, side work, food preparation, and storage.
Working Conditions
- This position requires a physical presence at the hotel and is not conducive to telecommuting or remote work.
- Standing and walking for long periods while maintaining a friendly, professional image.
- May be required to work any day or shift, including weekends.
