About the Role
The bartender offers prompt and courteous service to ensure guests have an enjoyable experience. They serve high-quality beverages while maintaining the cleanliness and guest-ready appearance of the outlet.
Prerequisites
- One year of experience in a food and beverage position (chain food and retail outlet preferred)
- High School diploma or equivalent (Associate’s Degree preferred)
- Food Handling and Alcohol Safety certifications preferred
- Must pass appropriate security clearances due to access to guestrooms and property
Essential Job Functions
- Perform major life activities: standing, lifting, bending, learning, reading, concentrating, thinking, and communicating
- Push or pull 60 pounds unassisted and lift and/or carry 30 pounds unassisted
- Stand for eight hours, bend, stretch, and reach
- See, hear, and communicate effectively with guests and associates
Responsibilities
- Prepare and consistently maintain a guest-ready working area and supplies
- Prepare and serve drinks as requested by guests
- Process guest charges and gratuities in accordance with standards, policies, and procedures
- Maintain safety and security practices, including thorough knowledge of emergency procedures
- Ensure guests receive the highest quality product and service
- Maintain certification from a brand-approved responsible vendor training program
- Regularly manage liquor inventory
- Perform other duties as assigned, provided the associate is capable
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge:
- Age requirements for serving alcoholic beverages
- Menu items, preparation methods, and beverage choices
- Types of alcoholic beverages, trends, and cocktail preparation
- Brand standards of operation
- Local shopping, dining, entertainment, and travel directions to assist guests
- Daily hotel operations, events, and procedural updates
- Entire property layout, staff, services, hours, room types, rates, and discounts
- Skills:
- Friendly and professional attitude
- Computer literacy for operating the property management system (posting charges, computing bills, collecting payments, making change)
- Ability to sell, suggest, and serve quality food and beverage items per standards
- Abilities:
- Multitask while remaining guest-service centric
- Effectively communicate with guests and associates
- Resolve guest issues professionally while maintaining a hospitable attitude
- Market and promote to increase exposure and sales
- Work as a team member in cleaning, side work, food preparation, and storage
Working Conditions
- Physical presence at the hotel is required; not conducive to telecommuting or remote work
- Standing and walking for long periods while maintaining a friendly, professional image
- May be required to work any day or shift, including weekends
