Bartender
Part-time position, 40 hours per pay period at Courtyard Café. Must be 21 years of age.
John Knox Village features 7 individual dining outlets spread across 400 acres of residential property, each with a unique menu and style of service. These include:
- Fireside (cafeteria, mostly batch cooking)
- Lakeside Grille (quick service, mix of cook-to-order and batch cooking)
- Courtyard Café, Places Restaurant, Stories Public House, and Metropolitan (full-service restaurants, 70–99% scratch made-to-order kitchens)
- Coffee Shoppe
All kitchens utilize prep and line cooks under the leadership of a chef. Check averages range from $6.50 at Fireside to $20.00 at Metropolitan. Flexible hours and full- and part-time positions are available. Full-time positions include up to 5 weeks of PTO per year. Operating hours range from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
About the Role
This position provides service duties in a restaurant, dining room, and kitchen environment. Responsibilities include preparing alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, hosting, setting up dining areas, taking food orders, serving food, and cleaning and sanitizing dining areas. The role supports the Village’s mission, values, and service/hospitality (PRIDE) expectations and requires completion of training as mandated by policy.
Responsibilities
- Serves guests in bar and dining areas.
- Prepares alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for guests at the bar and for servers.
- Ensures customers meet the required age of 21 to consume alcohol; monitors alcohol consumption and discontinues service if necessary.
- Sets up and cleans assigned dining areas.
- Relays orders to the kitchen and serves food.
- Performs food preparation tasks.
- May handle cashier responsibilities.
- Complies with dining services tip reporting policy.
- Observes residents and responds to additional needs.
- Restocks and replenishes bar inventory and supplies.
- Handles workplace stress and maintains positive interactions with colleagues and customers.
- Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must obtain a current Food Handler Permit within 15 days of start date.
Skills
- Ability to work with a large group of residents/customers.
- Beginner-level knowledge of cash handling and cash register operation.
- Proven working experience as a bartender preferred.
- Excellent knowledge of mixing, garnishing, and serving drinks.
- Computer literacy.
- Awareness of cost control responsibilities.
- Ability to work irregular hours.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and follow simple instructions and correspondence.
- Basic arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
- Ability to perform tasting and/or smelling tasks.
- Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed but straightforward instructions.

Frequent supervision provided by the Restaurant Manager. No supervision of others required.
