Bartender

About the Role

Provide guests with consistent quality drinks up to the Biltmore luxury standard. Take pride and be meticulous with the drinks prepared, ensuring satisfaction in service décor of the bar as well as the cleanliness of the area for guests and yourself. Consistently adhere to policies and procedures of The Biltmore as outlined in Biltmore Standard Operation Procedures (BSOP’s).

Responsibilities

• Maintain positive guest relationships to ensure 100% guest satisfaction.
• Offer guests the highest levels of service and product knowledge.
• Maintain bar pars accurately at all times.
• Provide the highest levels of professionalism and enthusiasm toward guests and co-workers.
• Take orders for drinks and food (always take a party’s complete drink order in one trip).
• Know the bar menu well and be able to explain and suggest drinks.
• Place the order and ensure that drinks are served in the proper glass with the proper garnish.
• Ensure that the brand of liquor ordered is the brand served.
• Adhere to the drinking age policy at all times.
• Present each party with a separate check at the end of service.
• Maintain the highest levels of sanitation and safety in the workplace.
• Keep the bar and floors clean at all times.
• Do not over-pour alcohol; standard measurement is 1 1/2 oz.
• Maintain control of the bar at all times.
• Be cautious with guests who have over-consumed drinks.
• Be familiar with liquor and wine selection, pricing, menus, presentation, and preparation.
• Know and adhere to proper I.D. procedures.
• Adhere to service standards as outlined in manuals.
• Perform daily reconciliation of sales and credit information.
• Complete all assigned closing tasks pertinent to the server position.
• Declare earned gratuities in accordance with current governmental requirements.
• Immediately notify a manager in the event of a problem or the perception of a problem.
• Demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to juggle several tasks.
• Complete paperwork as required.
• Possess in-depth knowledge of all food, beverages, and bar recipes offered by the hotel.
• Adhere to the service sequence as outlined by management.
• Maintain a positive attitude toward both guests and other staff members.
• Provide drink service in the bar area and prepare drinks for lounge and poolside.
• Keep workstation clean, orderly, and properly set with napkins, straws, and garnishes.

Requirements

• High School Diploma is required.
• Minimum two years’ bartender experience.
• Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the English language.
• Compute accurate mathematical calculations.
• Provide legible communication and directions.
• Perform job functions with attention to detail, speed, and accuracy.
• Prioritize and organize tasks effectively.
• Think clearly, remain calm, and resolve problems using good judgment.
• Follow directions thoroughly.
• Understand guests’ service needs.
• Work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team.
• Work with minimal supervision.
• Maintain confidentiality of guest information and pertinent resort data.
• Use a computer keyboard and possess basic typing skills.

• Adept at multitasking.

Physical Demands

• Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Stand, sit, or walk for extended periods or for an entire work shift.
• Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
• Use, carry, and operate all necessary office equipment using finger dexterity.
• Communicate through verbal communication, hearing ability, and visual acuity.
• Visually look at a computer for extended periods.
• Adapt to moderate temperatures in the hotel as thermostat is controlled by hotel environmental systems (most work tasks are performed indoors).
