Bartender

About the Role

The Bartender reports to the F&B Managers and works in a team environment with other F&B professionals, including barbacks, bartenders, servers, dishwashers, cooks, and chefs. It is critical the person in this position possess a background in advanced bartending techniques, has a natural ability to manage time, and a second-to-none knowledge of beverages and cocktails. As a bartender, you will be responsible for creating memorable guest experiences and the timely and friendly delivery of food and drinks.

Your past experiences have led you to understand that there is an art + science to creating the perfect concoction. You spend your days or nights working behind the bar tirelessly crafting perfectly balanced drinks, making wine recommendations, and naturally building relationships with guests. In your off time, you read up on spirits, the history of cocktails, and explore the Instagram accounts of the best bars in the world or find new drink recipes. You pride yourself on cultivating your regular guest base and love being the familiar, friendly face guests seek—whether they are celebrating or need comfort after a rough day. You are a well-known name in your community, welcoming, and embody gracious hospitality at all times.

Responsibilities

• Uphold and model the company’s principles of People, Place, and Character by being proud of who you are, where you come from, and who you serve at the hotel.
• Be collaborative with co-workers and leaders, using intuition to improve things when needed.
• Act as a storyteller of the history of Hotel Haya and share the hotel’s translocal hospitality efforts about local collaborators and partners.
• Participate in daily line-ups and quarterly all-staff meetings to develop ideas, provide constructive feedback, and strategize to address missed opportunities.
• Assist in all aspects of the F&B guest experience from greeting to ensuring bar products and supplies are well-stocked, executing requests in a timely manner, and ensuring guest satisfaction.
• Work in an organized and clean fashion, respecting guests, peers, equipment, and workspace to create lasting impressions and strong relationships.
• Use steps of service to provide professional service, ensuring alcohol is served safely, responsibly, and legally, and using recipes and jiggers for consistent cocktails.
• Be accountable for menu knowledge, including ingredients and daily availability, and accurately account for all monetary transactions during your shift.
• Share extensive beverage knowledge with guests to enhance their experience and demonstrate basic culinary terms through constant study of your craft.
• Observe and report conditions of physical facilities to the Food and Beverage leadership team for corrections and improvements.
• Communicate effectively with F&B and Culinary teams to ensure timely delivery of guest orders.
• Assist in other areas of the F&B Department as needed, including Banquets, Bar, Café, In-Room Dining, Pool, and Restaurants.

Requirements

• Passion for the People, Place, and Culture of the community, and a love of restaurants and guest service.
• Flexible availability including nights and weekends (Sundays are a must).
• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a bartender in either a free-standing or hotel restaurant or bar; craft cocktail experience.
• TiPS Alcohol service certification and SafeStaff Certificate of Completion, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
• Must meet local age requirements to serve alcohol.
• Available to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Fluency in English both verbally and non-verbally.

Additional Requirements

• Continuous standing and walking, negotiating wet tile floors and steps.
• Fine motor coordination for pouring beverages, decorating cocktails, and folding napkins.
• Standing and walking continuously for 4-5 hours at a time.
• Occasional lifting and carrying of 30 lb. trays, crates, or boxes.
• Continuous negotiation of varied floor surfaces.
• Occasional carrying over shoulder.
• Hand and elbow movements for polishing glassware, setting up tables, shaking, pouring, and mixing drinks.
• Excellent sight and balance for negotiating varied floor surfaces.
• Handling lighted candles and hot fluids (coffee and tea).
• Ability to lift, balance, and carry up to 25 lbs. to transport beverage goods, inventory, and equipment.
• Ability to lift, balance, and carry (with assistance) up to 100 lbs. for beverage inventory and equipment.
• Ability to work in extreme temperatures like freezers (-10°F) and kitchens (+110°F).
