About the role

Intermittent bartender position (0–19 hours/week) at the MWR Cape May Harborview Bar in Cape May, NJ. Salary: $18.79/hour. Announcement 6953; open until filled.

Responsibilities

• Mix and serve alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages; prepare a variety of mixed drinks using proper premix and garnish.
• Serve patrons directly or deliver to wait staff.
• Receive payment, operate cash register, make and return change; prepare documentation for cash funds accountability.
• Set up bar for operation; ensure bar is presentable and sanitary.
• Maintain adequate stock levels; set up storeroom and work area for easy access.
• Keep work area neat and clean; wash bar equipment, glassware, and utensils following proper sanitation procedures.
• Stock service bars and assist higher-level bartenders as required.
• Complete required alcohol-service training before starting work; attend annual local refresher training (documented).
• Identify unruly or intoxicated patrons; resolve issues or seek assistance per established procedures.
• Adhere to safety regulations; use required safety equipment; observe safe work procedures.
• Promptly report workplace hazards, injuries, occupational illnesses, or property damage to supervisor.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications

• Experience mixing alcoholic beverages for retail sale (completion of a bartender training school may substitute).
• Experience recognizing intoxicated or unruly patrons and resolving problems or seeking assistance.
• Experience following proper cash handling procedures.
• Ability to stoop, stand, and walk for long periods.
• Physically able to frequently lift 5–10 lbs, push/pull 10–20 lbs, and occasionally lift 40+ lbs.
• Meet minimum age requirement for working with/serving alcoholic beverages.

Preferred qualifications

• One year of experience as a bartender.
