About the role
The purpose of this position is to mix and serve alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages.
Responsibilities
- Prepares a variety of alcoholic drinks by selecting proper premix and garnish; requires working knowledge of mixed drinks.
- Serves patrons directly or delivers drinks to wait staff.
- Receives payment, operates cash register, and makes and returns change to patrons or wait staff.
- May prepare documentation for cash funds accountability.
- Sets up bar for operation and ensures it is presentable and sanitary.
- Maintains adequate stock levels; organizes storeroom and work area for easy access to items.
- Keeps work area neat and clean; washes bar equipment, glassware, and utensils following sanitation procedures.
- Stocks service bars and assists higher-level bartenders as required.
- Completes required training in serving alcoholic beverages before starting work; annual local refresher training is mandatory and must be documented.
- Identifies unruly or intoxicated patrons, resolves issues, or seeks assistance following established procedures.
- Adheres to safety regulations and standards; uses required safety equipment and observes safe work procedures.
- Reports workplace hazards, injuries, occupational illnesses, or property damage to the supervisor.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Experience mixing alcoholic beverages for retail sale; completion of a bartender’s training school may substitute for this experience.
- Experience recognizing intoxicated or unruly patrons and resolving issues or seeking assistance.
- Experience following proper cash handling procedures.
- Ability to stoop, stand, and walk for long periods.
- Physical ability to frequently lift objects weighing 5–10 pounds, push/pull objects weighing 10–20 pounds, and occasionally lift over 40 pounds.
- Must meet the minimum age requirement for working with and/or serving alcoholic beverages.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of experience as a bartender.
